Can A Christian Continue On Sinful Lifestyle?
December 3, 2008
Romans 6:1-2 ESV1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?”
Paul is saying after we have been saved through Christ, we DIED to SIN, past tense. So how do we, as believers who DIED to SIN still live and continue on a sinful lifestyle? Same question Paul asked… HOW? Are we to continue on sinning after we have been saved?
The answer is NO, after we’ve been saved through Christ and died to sin, we are now alive in Christ and we’re not to sin anymore. But we Christians still do sin, right? That’s true, no one is perfect, all of humanity fall short of God’s glory and we’re all sinners.
So what does these verses means? It means we as believers shouldn’t be comfortable in sinning; we should recognize our sins right away and ask for forgiveness. It means after we received salvation through Christ, after we received TRUE conversion, it is impossible for us to be comfortable committing sins. It means that we should no longer be slaves to sin, because anyone who has died to sin has been freed from sin. (Rom. 6:6-7)
If you’re a believer in Christ, and you’re comfortable in sinning, you need to start thinking whether you had a genuine conversion in Christ; you need to start thinking to whom or which you put your faith in?
It’s never too late. Don’t say you can’t come to Jesus because you’re sinning; don’t say you are not worthy to come to Him because of your sinful nature. The MORE you’re being slave to sin the MORE you need Jesus. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Put your trust and faith in Jesus today. God bless you all!
